J'ai mes habitude à l'hôtel ISTRIA. L'accueil est de grande qualité et la rue est calme et très bien située. Les chambres sont confortables et le petit déjeuner agréable. C'est un hôtel que je recommande sans réserve !

It's a small hotel, but more than adequate particularly since we were out most of the time. I had stayed there over twenty years ago and came back because it so well located in Paris.

My family of four -- with two teenage sons -- stayed here for three days. The location on a quiet side street in the Montparnasse area is wonderful; you're away from the heavy tourist crowds here, yet close to the metro and to a number of lovely restaurants, including the very famous Le Dome and La Rotonde. The metro (Raspail stop) is just 50 yards away. Luxembourg Gardens is an 8-minute walk through quiet streets. My boys loved the cozy breakfast cave downstairs -- ("Dad . . . salami for breakfast? I love this.") -- and the charmingly tight, vintage spiral stairwell linking the floors of the hotel. (Which we always took instead of the elevator.) The rooms were clean and nice; very Parisian in their tight yet comfortable proportions. We were well taken care of during our stay. No complaints at all. The hotel lobby is functional only, somewhat underwhelming upon arrival when compared to many other hotels in this area of Paris at the 3-star level. With the front desk staff be ready to trot out your rusty college French. Recommended for price, cleanliness, and location -- and for those who want to get away to a quieter, less tourist-thronged part of Paris. It's also nice to stay in a hotel so full of history. We liked knowing that Erik Satie, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Rey lived here in the 1920s, probably shuffling up and down the same spiral staircase we did. Can't get that in the U.S.!

It was okay and I am a regular customer. However, I asked via email before I booked for a room on the street. When I arrived I found out that I would have to pay more for the room I asked for. I believe that in addition to my request for a street room, I had to indicate whether I wanted a standard or a superior room. I opted for standard thinking that my request for a room on the street would be honored. I found out that only superior rooms face the street. I think that whoever answered my email and booked my room should have let me know that I needed to book a superior room to face the street. By not advising me that I needed to book a superior room to get my street view, I believe I was misled.

I have stayed at the Istria many times. It's my hotel of choice in Paris. I now have some access proems. I have to have a walk-in shower, elevator, and no difficult steps. The only possible problem is the heavy door and nothing to hold while stepping up and down. Help was always available, so this didn't prevent me staying there; but a grab bar would be a great idea. I will come back! I love the Istria because of its history and location. I know that Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet lived in Room 12, and that Eric Satie lived there. Maybe if I have his old room, I will be able to play the piano better?? Other artists and writers lived there in the 20s and 30s, and their spirits are still there. This quiet corner of Montparnasse is a paradise for lovers of the 1920s and 30s in Paris. The Raspail Metro station is steps away to whisk you to wherever else you want to be in Paris. BTW you are also steps away from Cimetière Montparnasse, endlessly surprising as you walk around searching out graves of famous people.
